Celebrate Your Age and Live a Meaningful Life!

Alright ladies, let's talk about age here.

I recently had a birthday, and birthday's are always such a time for reflection for me. It is a chance to stop and take a minute to think about where you are, where you were a year ago, and to look forward to where you hope to be in a year. Age is so much more than a number, and as mine creeps closer and closer to 30, I realize how much more these numbers are really just milestones to document all our life experiences. LIVING, and not worrying about those pesky numbers, is really what gets you from one birthday to the next.

I was going through drawers last night, and found the birthday book my mom made for me when I was little. Each birthday she would write me a poem, a song (she is a songwriter!), a letter - or whatever, to document that year and the experiences that went with it. The last entry was for my 21st birthday. It made me stop, and of course tear up. How super sweet is this?

I love my mom. She has always encouraged us to live meaningful lives, and I am doing just that. Since these 21 wishes that my mom gave to me SEVEN years ago, yes that would make me 28 now, I have experienced way more than I ever thought possible.

So where do I find myself now? How do I define myself as a 28 year old? Well, let's see,
I graduated college, and learned that finding out what you want to do is not always easy. I got my first "big girl" job, which I am still loving five years later. I got engaged. I got unengaged. I went completely crazy and started this blog ;). I lost my Aunt unexpectedly and felt sadness I didn't know was possible. I stood by and supported over 20 of my best friends as they got married, and celebrated many of their first (and second!) babies' birthdays. I have traveled, I have laughed, I have cried and held hands of friends who have had their worlds fall apart. I bought my first car, and am in the process of buying my first house as we speak ;) but basically I have LIVED. These are all the stories that make up who I am at 28 years YOUNG. We should celebrate our age. With each and every birthday comes a year of experiences, love, laughter, sadness, and rebuilding- and these are the things that make you YOU!

No matter what life has thrown at me, I choose to age with grace. I have talked many times before
about how much I love Olay, and with their 60th anniversary this year, I thought it was only fitting to help celebrate! Olay continues to empower woman to challenge what is possible, and be PROUD of their age. I am so proud of who I am at 28, and I can honestly say I am happier now than I have ever been. Life is NEVER perfect, but learning to love yourself, and learning to live your life, taking the good and the bad, and celebrating your years, is what it is all about.

Ladies, let's be proud of our age! Leave me a comment shouting your age, or maybe how you chose to live a meaningful life. Each comment will be entered to win a $100 VISA gift card courtesy of Olay.
Thanks so much for reading, and I can't wait to see what this NEXT year has in store for me!

I had a major quarter-life-crisis this year when I turned 25. All I could think about what was have I DONE with 25 years of life? But then I decided to stop panicking and instead focus on all the things I can STILL DO with the years of life ahead!

I just turned 24! Woo hoo! Another year another dollar!

As you probably know I am the big 2-9 (boo).
I try to live for me and make it meaningful by not being so focused on pleasing other people ALL.THE.TIME. This is hard for me! I'm also trying to learn to say no more often :)

I'm on the downhill slide to the big 3-0 (29 now) and I just married the love of my life in September (and looked amazing doing it, thanks to PLL). I'm in a job I love and have amazing friends and family surrounding me. Couldn't ask for a better life.

I'm a 31 year old hag, about to turn into a 32 year old shrew. Aging sucks.

However on a more positive note, I will tell you that I swear by Olay products. Always have. The best.

I'm 34 and ABSOLUTELY ok with that. I can't avoid getting older. Well, I could, but that's a whole new story. Had my first (and only) child at 25 which was nice. I got to have so much fun being single before that. And having even more fun as an old, married mom now!

I'm 29 and slightly panicked this year. It's my last year in my 20's. It was hard to wrap my mind around that. Mainly because I still feel 23 (even if my body doesn't react like it used to!) and I'm pretty sure I graduated college a year ago. But, I'm embracing it and instead of panicking when I turn 30, I'm going to celebrate it on a beach with a my girls!

The Whitfields said...

This post speaks to me!!! Your story reminds me of mine so much. I got engaged in college and after moving to NYC, I broke the engagement off because I just felt it wasn't right. Then, I moved down to Atlanta where I've been for the past six years. God knows what he's doing even when we can't see the road ahead. One of my dear friends, sent me this quote which is one of my favorites! "Don't let anything shake you from the certainity of God's love, grace, goodness & faithfulness for you."

Claire Kiefer said...

I am 31! Totally feels old to say I'm over 30, but I've grown more and more used to it. I left Georgia (where I grew up) at 18 and slowly migrated west . . . I haven't had the most traditional life (I'm not married, no kids, no house, etc.), but it's been exciting. I've been to college and graduate school and traveled a lot (to China, even!) and fallen in love and had lots of amazing jobs. What is most important to me is that I continue to give to the world throughout my whole life. I think that as long as I'm doing that, I'll be fulfilled.

Jenna Rome said...

I am 26 years old (27 in 2 months!) and am running my 5th half marathon in 3 weeks. I have had the most amazing 27th year of life - I am a new aunt and a wife! Living is right :)

Paige (The Last Doughnut) said...

I will be 40 in January! The number doesn't bother me at all; in fact, as I get older I am more comfortable and confident in everything that I do. Age really is just a number!

Danielle said...

I'm 35 and honestly, I rarely think of my age. Once I had children, my focus is on their age and I feel like my age never changes. So not true but I guess I'm just preoccupied with them (:

shelleystursma said...

Yay for 35 (almost 36)! It's been a crazy year health-wise, and I look forward to finding out what God has in store for me in 2013 :)

This is such a Wonderful post. It really is somewhat of an eye opener-- and I am so glad I read it Before my birthday { which just happens to be this Saturday-- Going to be turning 24 }

It really helped me open up my eyes that life is really too short, and to not take it for granted. Yes times may be tough at some point but that you should appreciate the little things and those true people-- friends and family around you.
