A little reminder we sometimes all need...

So last night I was watching the X-Factor (guilty pleasure-singing competitions) and corny or not, I may or may not have gotten teary at one of the stories they showed.

Just watch this. Yeah, it's 12 minutes… but it is so damn sweet. I was so so moved by all the emotion in this video, from Jillian, to Demi, and even Simon. AAAAND girl can sing.

REAL TALK: Bullying sucks. And mean girls exist.

The whole Queen Bee mentality totally blows my mind. Watching this last night really made me think a lot about bullying, in all forms. While I was fortunate enough to not be bullied in school, or by girls growing up, I have had my fair share of cyber bullying by the nasty mean girls of the blog world.

Unfortunately they exist. If you don't know what I am talking about, or haven't had any runs-ins, then you're lucky, because it ain't pretty, and it isn't fun.

I try not to pay attention or to read the negative, because the good of the blog world far outweighs the bad. But we are all human, and it sucks seeing hurtful and untrue things written about you. It does, let's be honest. I would never in my LIFE think about being hateful to another person. Ever. Like ever.  I would actually be just the opposite, and extremely encouraging. I guess I may have my parents to thank, for bringing me up in a loving, tolerant, accepting home, and teaching me that it is never ok to foster hate.

Blogging takes thick skin.

I have learned that there are always going to be people that don't like you, or that don't get you, and that is absolutely fine. We are ALL different. I love pugs and pink bows. I am quite often absolutely ridiculous, and girly to the extreme. I am unnaturally obsessed with Carrie Underwood, but I am never mean or hateful because someone may be different than me, and I am always myself. Be who you are dammit. ;)

I am 27, and I am confident enough in who I am to be ok putting myself out there. I couldn't imagine having blogs, and facebook, and twitter etc. if you were going through middle or high school. I shudder thinking about it.

If there is one thing I want to do with this blog, it is to inspire confidence in women. Being able to be yourself, and put it out there, even if it's scary sometimes, is what it is all about.  If I can help even one girl to have increased self-confidence in herself, then that is awesome.

Blog world or real world-whatever your struggles are-don't listen to the negative noise, tune it out and keep on keepin' on girlfriend. And in turn- if you are a mean girl, then cut the shit. Stop it. Grow up.  Even Regina George did it. ;)

NO ONE is perfect, we all have our struggles, and bullying is NOT ok.

Thank you to every single one of you who send me sweet messages and support this blog daily. Thank you to my amazing core group of girlfriends who make my life incredible beyond words, and thanks to my parents and sissies for shaping me into the woman that I am, pink and all ;)

PS I hadn't heard this song before, but here is the original. Love!

Oh and Jillian, you killed it girl!!!

I love this post!! :) Every word you said is so true, and personally I love that you love pink bows and pugs, and have an obsession with Carrie. AND I love that you own it! One of my favorite things about your blog is how true to yourself you are. Love that!

Great post PLL!! I'm with you - I don't understand those who spew hate and negative crap. It's completely unnecessary! Thankfully, my blog is small enough that the haters aren't drawn to it, so I don't have to put up with anything like that! You seem like such a sweet person - I imagine you are in real life like you come across in your blog - friendly, bubbly, and a complete sweetheart. Ignore the hate - you're better than that!

this is an awesome post - well-said!! :)

I love your blog and I'm a faithful reader, although I don't comment much. I can't stand bullying of any kind but I think cyber bullying is the most pathetic. If a person doesn't like someone's blog or facebook page (or whatever else) they have the ability to just not look at it. Instead, they go out of their way, take time out of their day, and even read everything just to bash that person. That is just ridiculous! I think everyone should be encouraging and uplifting, and if they don't like something then just peace out. I have actually been trying my best to comment on blogs this week that I don't usually comment on for the sole purpose of encouragement and moral support. Keep on keeping on. Love your blog!

I cannot believe that anyone even has a bad word to say about you.. it really enfuriates me. You have never been anything but kind and sweet to me and have always taken time to respond to comments or emails and it means the world. Wave off those haters girl because if I had to guess.. they are most likely jealous of what a gorgeous, successful, and funny woman you are! xoxox

Wow, just wow. I couldn't make up a bad thing to say about you if I tried. You have never been anything but sweet, sincere and amazing towards me and other readers. I'm so over this blogging bullying going on lately, even little bloggers like me are experiencing a gist of it and it sucks! You're totally amaze, girl!

Rachel said...

Pah-reach girl! Love this!

I am a strong believer that bulling just stems from jealousy, need for attention, and insecurity.

The better you are, the more likely you will be to have others want to bring you down to their unhappy level!

I just wanted to say that I've been a reader of your blog for some time now. I discovered your blog through Emily from Beauty Broadcast. I love your blog, I've actually read through almost all your posts! This was a great post. I had been a victim of bullying in my younger years.

You took the words right out of my mouth!! I feel the exact same as of lately. xo

I hate mean people!! I've had my fair share of blog bullies as well. I was definitely right there crying with everyone else while I watched last night - I hope she goes really far!

But speaking of X-Factor let's talk about a few things here...
a) Britney's makeup - who did that.
b)The drag queen bride that made it through?! hahah he did have me laughing uncontrollably though!

Robin said...

AMEN. I was a blubbering mess watching her on the x factor last night. I'm so happy she didn't let anyone stop her from following her dreams. I just don't understand bullying. Why does making someone else feel terrible make them feel better? It's sad, and it's sick, and I wish we could make it stop. Thanks for posting about this today! Love your blog more with each and every post.

Girl, A to the MEN! LOVE everything you said in this post. There is absolutely no reason for bullying, it is totally uncalled for, it doesn't do anything but cause hurt, and it all stems from the bully's own self-esteem issues. It's so sad, because they take it out on others, instead of looking internally, where the problem lies. It makes me sick how cruel people can be to others.
Anyway. Great post! Annnnd definitely love that song! I remember when I first heard it, I played it literally multiple times a day. Yeah, ub-sessed.

Fantastic post hun! I saw that on X Factor last night and it's such an amazing story.

I had no idea there were mean girls in the blog world, I can't imagine why or how and it's so sad. And I'm so sorry that you've been bullied around these parts. You my dear are a ray of sunshine and I absolutely love your blog! *hugs*

K said...

I never watch the X Factor but we ended up catching that part last night. It was amazing. So great to see! And I've never had any issues with blog bullying thankfully, but I have seen it. I can't believe that some people out there can be so cruel. Amazing post!

I couldn't agree more!

Amber said...

I couldn't agree more. I don't see how anyone could say something negative about something you post. I have never once read your blog and had negative thoughts about anything you have said. People are just jealous and it is a shame that they would say something hurtful to someone else to make themselves feel better.

This post is just perfection. This is all so true about mean girls, bullying, all of it. It sucks that we live in a world where people think it's okay to be hateful, but there are many times the good outweigh the bad.

"Be who you are dammit"
Best line ever!

Caitlin C. said...

AMEN to that! This was an amazing post and one that everyone needs to read. There is NEVER a reason to be mean or bully someone else! I love your blog and the fact that you celebrate who you are. Don't quit! :)

Stephanie said...

I was watching last night too and literally cried my eyes out. When Demi said you can feel her pain when she sings, it was so true. Poor girl. I'm so glad she is rising above it and doing something that makes her feel powerful.

I've been loving how many people are rallying against bullying. It's really a beautiful thing!

Hi! I've never commented on your blog before though I've been reading for awhile, but felt necessary to this time.
What you said, was perfectly written. I too saw Jillian on X Factor and my husband and I were BOTH in tears.
It is so great to read a blog that is always positive, and you definitely hit that mark. So thank you for how you write, and for commenting on how horribly bullying (in any form) is for a person.

I love reading your blog every day and you have such an amazing zest for life girl! Every time I get around to your blog in the morning it always puts a smile on my face :)

Best blog post ever. So heartfelt. My daughter who is a beautiful 14 y/old freshman was bullied during her 5 and 6 grades and it broke my heart into a million pieces, I can't imagine what she felt.
Thank you for this post. I'm going to have her read this.

AMEN sistah. Girl, I loved every word you said here. Thank you for being brave, honest and bold. I'm sorry you've experienced internet bullying - I am of the firm belief that bullies and haters tear others down because they are jealous of them, because they are the ones who were too afraid to go out there and be fabulous. And girl you are JUST THAT: fab. :) Always love your blog. Always brings a smile to my face. You're a gem! Keeping shining and being you! xoxo

This was such a beautiful story! Thank you for posting that video. Don't feel bad about crying, I cried through the whole thing too :-) People can be so cruel. I definitely agree that blogging takes thick skin. Sometimes people will leave the nastiest comments on my blog. It's so sad to know some people have no love in their heart. Thanks again for this post! I love Demi's story too. So incredible!

I may not really know you but I feel like everytime I read your blog posts I get to know you a little better and Honestly I think you are an amazing person and inspiration to alot of people. Thank you for being honest and putting your thoughts out there! :)

Great Post....this is exactly how I feel when I've noticed mean postings or read from women out there about how they have recently been 'bullied' and how they are trying not to think too much on it. In this day and age we do need thick skin, sad part is the thicker our skin the more creative the bullies get to find that little crack that they can slip through. As long as you have great people in your life though you can stay positive.

I'm so glad you shared this! I don't watch the X-Factor, Idol, etc. but I love seeing the highlights and WOW. This was the best thing I've ever seen on any of those kind of shows.

I had goosebumps while she was singing then started crying after... yep actually crying. Ok I need to get off the couch now.

I'm sorry that ANYONE is mean to you in the blog world. I've learned (vicariously!) that once your blog gets to a certain size, and has a certain number of readers, people are gonna say mean shit. Lindsey has directed me to what people have said about her on GOMI, and suffice to say, I am HORRIFIED by that site and the people on it. I want to just feel compassion for them, but I find myself feeling anger and just . . . alarm! Whyyyyyy do people spend their days being mean about bloggers online? Especially NICE bloggers? It's sad, but you have a great attitude about it.

Lindsey said...
